Champions Series Tiebreaker Rules

Rules for Tiebreakers - Decision Process for Determining Advancing Player

1) Best Record in Round Robin Group
2) Head to Head Winner
3) Percentage of Sets Won
4) Percentage of Games Won

In the event of a two-way tie for the best record in a round-robin group, the player advancing to the Championship match will be determined by the winner of the head-to-head match between the two players.

In the event of a three-way tie for the best record in a round-robin group, the player advancing to the Championship match will be determined by calculating the percentage of sets won.

In most cases there will be one player that had a higher percentage, thereby allowing that player to advance to the Championship match. The 3rd Place match participant will then be determined by the winner of the head-to-head match between the remaining two players in contention.

In some cases, there will be an identical percentage of sets won among the players in the three-way tie.

If two players share the highest percentage of sets won, this would thereby eliminate the 3rd player, and we would return to the head-to-head criteria.

If all three players share the same percentage of sets won, the percentage of games won will be the next determining factor – using the same logic as above.

  Example 1
Championship Match participant is determined by winner of head-to-head match between Player A and Player B. The loser of the head-to-head match will play in the 3rd place match.

  Example 2
Championship Match participant is determined (between Players A, B and C) by the player with the highest percentage of sets won.
  • If Player A has the highest percentage of sets won, Player A will proceed to the Championship Match. The participant in the 3rd place match will then be the winner of the head-to-head match between Players B & C.
  • If Players A & B have the same (highest) percentage of sets won, then Player C drops out of contention. The Participant in the Championship Match will then be the winner of the head-to-head match between Player A and B, with the loser proceeding to the 3rd Place Match.
  • If Players A, B & C all have the same percentage of sets won, then the percentage of games won will be calculated for all three players. Once the player with the highest percentage of games won is identified, the decision will again return to the winner of the head-to-head match between the remaining two players.
