  BIOGRAPHY

Arias served notice at age 11 that he was a player to be reckoned with. He won the City Tournament in his native Buffalo, N.Y., defeating seasoned players twice his age (and almost twice his size). Known for a punishing forehand and extraordinary mental toughness, Arias was one of the first graduates of the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy to make big waves on the pro circuit.

  CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
At age 15 Jimmy became the youngest player ever to achieve a world ranking. He turned pro at age 16.
In 1980 Arias became the youngest player (at 16) to play the men’s main singles draw of the U.S. Open.
By 1982 he had risen to the Top 20 in the world, with runner up finishes at Indianapolis and Washington.
Arias enjoyed his best year in 1983 with four singles titles, including the U.S. Clay Court Championships and the Italian Open. That same year at age 19 he reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open.
