  BIOGRAPHY

Petr Korda's incredible natural talent is evident as soon as he steps on the court. A lanky lefty with smooth and powerful groundstrokes hit with amazing precision and grace, he is reminiscent of a young Laver. His slight frame 6'3 and only 160 lbs. makes all this power and shot-making even more remarkable. Korda's crowning achievement was his Australian Open title in 1998. He also won the doubles there in '96. Little wonder he considers Melbourne his favorite Grand Slam venue.
 
  CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
In 1985, Korda and partner Cyril Suk were the top-ranked junior doubles team in the World and won the French Open junior doubles.
After turning pro in 1987, he won his first professional title in 1988 (doubles in Gstaad) and his first top-tier singles title in 1991 (New Haven).
In 1993, an unseeded Korda won the Grand Slam Cup, overcoming then World No.1 Pete Sampras 13-11 in a fifth-set tiebreak and Michael Stich in a five-set final.
In 1996 he captured the Australian Open Doubles with Stefan Edberg.
Korda won his lone Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open in 1998, thoroughly dominating Marcelo Rios 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.
He reached his highest singles ranking (No.2) in 1997 and his highest doubles ranking (No.10) in 1990.
20 career titles: 10 in singles; 10 in doubles.
